Senior Managing Director Melissa Kibler spoke on the “Demystifying Rainmaking” panel at the International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (“IWIRC”) Annual Spring Conference on May 11, 2021.
The panel’s focus was on the steps that insolvency professionals can take to become rainmakers both in their careers and for their respective firms, including the importance of building professional networks, developing referral sources, effectively leveraging professional organizations and associations, and working hard to develop specialist expertise over time. Panel members discussed the evolution of rainmaking over their careers, resources which helped build their practices, challenges they have faced as women rainmakers in the profession, and characteristics of successful rainmakers.
Kibler, who currently serves as President of the American College of Bankruptcy, also discussed concepts included in her materials, “Professional Associations as a Business Development Tool,” in which she emphasized the importance of focusing one’s professional association activities, volunteering, working hard on behalf of an organization’s goals, and mentoring new professionals.
