Barclay is a Managing Director with extensive experience in the Consumer & Retail space, advising startups, mid-size, and Fortune 500 companies. His balance of finance and operational expertise allows him to develop strategies with C-level executives and then effectively implement them within the organizations he serves.
At Accordion, Barclay has helped clients in the furniture retail, ed-tech, industrial safety products, and SaaS industries, among others. He recently implemented a driver-based budgeting and forecasting model for a large national retailer, allowing the portfolio company CFO to assess store-level financial performance in real-time. He has deployed 13-week cash flow models and run financial stress-testing within portfolio companies at key junctures of the PE life-cycle, allowing sponsors & management to make informed, data-driven decisions.
Before joining Accordion, Barclay consulted for an overseas, VC-backed location-based entertainment (LBE) company looking to expand into the US market. He developed 3-statement financial models, ran scenario-analyses, created site proformas, and developed the framework for new-store CapEx decision-making to determine funding requirements. Previously, Barclay launched his own startup in the food-tech space, developing an asset-light, crowd sourced marketing platform that allowed online content creators to turn recipes into shoppable meal-kits.
He also served as CFO & COO for the high-growth apparel company, Faherty Brand. There, he accelerated production and shifted sourcing strategy to deliver $1M+ in free-cash flow in year-one. He oversaw the company’s retail roll-out, initiated a quarterly close process, compiled historical financials, and brought all tax deadlines on-calendar, all while the business was growing 100%+ YoY (from $2.5M to $10M+).
Barclay began his career at Ralph Lauren, where he worked for 9 years in sourcing & manufacturing, project management, store FP&A, and, ultimately, as the Director of Finance & Operations for the Club Monaco Ecommerce division.
He graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. in Economics (finance concentration) and a minor in Chinese.
